Advice on inexpensive laptop? - cheapest full tilt play chips

Please help! I need advice on buying a laptop (which is a gift for my husband). I have never bought or before the possession. I need to be as cheap as possible and is primarily for surfing the internet, playing poker in one of these online sites like Bodog and Full Tilt are used and we have to use to view photos via e-mail our digital camera, as holiday (so you may need to save files to it, too). You can create a DVD on to see, too. Any advice on brands, stores, websites, special models, etc.? I looked at cheaper Acer notebooks. Do you have enough memory, speed, etc.? Should I become obsolete?
